Recently, the development of lightweight and flexible perovskite solar cells has garnered widespread attention. These solar cells are lightweight and flexible, making them suitable for installation on building walls, low-load roofs, curved surfaces such as vehicle bodies, and various other locations. In Japan, perovskite solar cells have already been installed in facilities of the Tokyo Metropolitan Sewerage Bureau, and it has also been decided to install them on the roofs of bus stops at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. These thin and lightweight perovskite solar cells can store energy and provide illumination for the bus stops at night.

President Kato stated that the main weaknesses of these solar cells are durability and the need to improve conversion efficiency. In this regard, Sekisui Chemical has already ensured 10 years of outdoor durability and has steadily increased power generation efficiency to 15%. However, in order to achieve commercialization, they need to master the technology of producing 1-meter-wide solar cells using roll-to-roll manufacturing processes and thin-film coating techniques. They plan to achieve commercialization in 2025 and lead other technologies in this field.

As part of their midterm strategy, they position perovskite solar cells as environmentally friendly products, such as "Sustainable Contribution Products," in their pursuit of contributing to society and company growth. They also aim to provide earthquake-resistant houses in the residential sector with internal use of solar panels and batteries, reducing utility costs to nearly zero. This approach not only promotes energy efficiency and environmental conservation but also saves energy expenses for users.
